Neural Nets.
The human and animal brain is composed of cells called neurons. These cells
are very unique and unlike other body cells they do not die, nor do they reproduce.
This is a confirmation as to why we retain information in our brain. There
are 100 billion estimated numbers of neurons in a human brain and approximately
100 different types of neurons, which are well known. The collective function
of neurons is called a network. Each group contains several thousand highly
interconnected neurons. Therefore, a brain can be defined as a neural network.
The technology, which achieves the ultimate results, is called neural computing
or Artificial Neural Network.

The axon merges with the dendrites and transmit signals, which are sent over synapses. The synapses has the ability to increase or decrease the strength of the connection which causes excitation and inhibition of a subsequent neuron
An artificial neural network is a model that emulates a biological neural network. The concepts are used to implement software simulations of massively parallel process involving processing elements also called neurons or neurodes, interconnected in network architecture.
The use of ANN in the financial industry has been in existence since decades. The banks use this technology to evaluate their client's ability to meet the financial risk, credit worthiness, their future payment behavior. These are excellent forecasting tools, currently being used to forecast currencies, Indices, IPO's, and even human moods. The rate of forecasting accuracy varies from 80% to 97%.
It is recommended that an individual investor must familiarize him/her (self) with the basic knowledge and the Network Theory, their use and limitations. The basic statistical measures and probabilities must also be understood. In order to pre-process the data, one must have sound knowledge of windows excel spreadsheet software. It is equally important to choose correct inputs. Changing inputs and making observations of the outputs, and then selecting the best can perform optimization of the neural nets. Each of the models discussed above should be historically tested and re tested if these are to be used for actual trading. And remember again, that technology will not and never supplant human judgment in decision making in the financial industry.
